Many people have porcelain veneers. It is a popular choice for correcting many imperfections the teeth often have. However, there are many people who find that their porcelain veneers are not the smile solution they thought they would be.
Some problems people have had with porcelain veneers include:
- Veneers look and feel too thick
- Fake looking veneers
- Veneers fall of
- Discoloration at the margins of the veneers
There are reasons these problems occur. Bulky veneers could be the result of the lab making them too thick or the dentist not reducing the tooth enough. Veneers that fall off or show discoloration were probably not bonded correctly.
Placing porcelain veneers is a delicate and technically sensitive procedure. There are some cosmetic dentists who may not have the skill necessary to consistently place porcelain veneers well, or the lab these dentists use may not be very good. As a result, experienced cosmetic dentists, like Dr. Sands, replace and correct bad veneers.
Correcting bad porcelain veneers is a matter of removing the bad veneers and replacing them. Making sure they are bonded correctly and are the right size and shape is important. If your tooth needs to be reduced further to fit the veneer, Dr. Sands will do that.
You should not have to wear bad veneers at all. If you would like your bad veneers corrected and are in the Beverly Hills, California area, please contact experienced cosmetic dentist Dr. Kevin Sands for an initial consultation.

Lumineers® are a brand of porcelain veneers made from a patented type of ultra-strong porcelain called Cerinate and marketed by Den-Mat. They can be bonded or pasted directly on top of your teeth with no drilling. Only certified Lumineers dentists may offer this procedure due to the delicate nature and complex placement of the Cerinate. Because the Lumineer is so thin, color control becomes an issue. This means color depth, brightness, transparency, and hue are all important for a beautiful smile. Beverly Hills area cosmetic dentist Dr. Kevin Sands is Lumineer certified and offers this procedure.
Similarities between Lumineers and porcelain veneers include:
- Both only cover visible portions of the teeth
- Both correct minor imperfections
- Both can conceal stains
- Both can give teeth the appearance of being straighter and longer
Unlike traditional porcelain veneers, the Lumineers process is reversible since enamel doesn’t have to be removed from your teeth. Any anesthetic that might be needed for traditional porcelain veneers is not needed with Lumineers.
Some Differences between Lumineers and Traditional Porcelain Veneers
Some Lumineers patients have said that the porcelain feels bulky or looks bulky. This is because there is no tooth enamel reduction and no compensation for the added thickness. While there may be problems with Lumineers and tooth coloring, traditional porcelain veneers are better able to match your existing teeth. Lumineers are better for the most minor tooth corrections while traditional porcelain veneers are able to correct more types of imperfections.
The only way to tell if Lumineers are a better option for you is to speak to a certified Lumineers cosmetic dentist. If you are in the Beverly Hills, California area and are interested in Lumineers or traditional porcelain veneers, please contact experienced cosmetic dentist Dr. Sands for an initial consultation.

Many people have made the decision that hiding the imperfections of their teeth is best accomplished with porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are wafer thin shells bonded to your natural teeth to address several dental issues. Experienced cosmetic dentist Dr. Sands in Beverly Hills uses porcelain veneers to correct:
- Discoloration and stains
- Chipped teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Widely spaced teeth
- Discolored fillings
Porcelain veneers are custom-fitted for your teeth and are not mass produced by a factory. The porcelain veneers process is painless and can be accomplished in two or three visits.
Veneers Process
- After consulting with Dr. Sands about your goals and expectations, your teeth are prepared by having a small fraction (less than a millimeter) of your natural tooth enamel buffed away. This will make room for your porcelain veneers.
- A mold is made of your teeth so that your custom-fitted veneers will fit properly. This is done at Dr. Sands in-house lab where the porcelain veneers will be developed.
- Using a special light, Dr. Sands places your porcelain veneers.
- The result will be whiter and straighter teeth, giving you more self-confidence. The porcelain veneers can last years if taken care of properly.
If you are interested in being fitted for porcelain veneers, please contact Beverly Hills, California area cosmetic dentist Dr. Kevin Sands to set up a consultation today.
